If your startup needs somewhere to publish a job and receive applications, Wellfound's free listings are a practical starting point. If you want to approach particular professionals with a paid invitation, Instant Expert offers calls and replies. You can use a public job post and paid introductions together.

Wellfound also sells sourcing software and recruiting help. Decide which work you want help with before comparing prices.

Published prices

Wellfound's pricing page, checked September 26, 2026, lists:

  • Job Posts: free; optional ads start at $200 per ad.
  • Reach Explore: free, with 20 contact reveals a month and three active agents.
  • Reach Starter: $135 per seat a month, with 250 monthly contact reveals.
  • Reach Growth: $199 per seat a month, with 1,000 monthly contact reveals.
  • Reach Scale: custom pricing.
  • Autopilot: $500 per month per open role, plus a 10% placement fee on a successful hire.

Before buying Autopilot, ask what amount the 10% is calculated from; the pricing page does not specify it. The monthly role charge and the placement fee are separate costs.

Instant Expert shows offers for individual recipients before you send requests. The displayed buyer total covers that paid exchange, not a recruiter's work to fill the position.

Example: hiring your first engineer

A first-engineer opening might involve building features, fixing production problems and talking to customers. Write those responsibilities into the job post, alongside the real compensation, equity and location terms. “Wear many hats” leaves candidates guessing.

Start with a Wellfound listing if you can review applicants yourself. Consider Reach if you want to run outbound sourcing, or Autopilot if you need someone else to find and approach people.

For a person you particularly want to meet, offer a paid 30-minute introductory call through Instant Expert. Explain one real engineering problem the hire would own. Ask which responsibilities interest them, what support they would need and what would make the role unsuitable. Leave time for their questions.

If both sides want to continue, agree on the next interview step. A paid introduction is an opportunity to discuss the role, not a promise of an application or hire. Search for relevant experience and review each offer before sending.
