Instant Expert vs contact finders (Apollo, RocketReach, Hunter)
Apollo, RocketReach and Hunter sell access to contact data: you get a work email, then writing to the person and getting a reply is up to you. Instant Expert never hands over the email. It sends your note with a paid offer to the person you choose, and you pay only if they book a call or send an answer.
Facts about contact finders last checked October 3, 2026, on their own public pages.
The main difference
Contact finders are priced for volume. A subscription buys hundreds or thousands of email lookups a month, which is the right economics for a sales team sending sequences to long lists.
Instant Expert is priced per outcome. You pay nothing for finding the person and nothing for sending; you pay when a specific person agrees to talk or answers your question. That's expensive per contact and cheap per conversation, so it fits a short list of people you really want to hear from.
Side by side
| Question | Instant Expert | Contact finders |
|---|---|---|
| Who you can reach | Anyone you name or describe whose work email we can find. You never see the address. | Large contact databases: RocketReach says 700 million professionals. You get the email or phone number. |
| How pricing works | You set the offer per person (minimum $5) and a cap on total spend. The price includes our 20% fee; the person gets 80%. No subscription. | Apollo: free plan, then $49, $79 or $119 per seat a month billed yearly. RocketReach: $399, $899 or $1,699 a year. Hunter: free for 50 credits a month, then $49, $149 or $299 a month ($34, $104 or $209 billed yearly). |
| When you pay | Only when someone books a call or sends a written answer. Declines and invitations nobody accepts within 7 days cost $0. | Up front, monthly or yearly, whether or not anyone replies. Credits or lookups are used when you reveal or export a contact. |
| Speed | The invitation goes out when you approve the send. People have 7 days to book or answer, with up to two reminders. There's no guarantee a given person says yes. | Instant: the email shows up in seconds. Getting a reply then depends on your own outreach. |
| Best for | A short list of people you need to actually hear from. | Outbound sales and recruiting at volume, with contacts going into a CRM or sequencer. |

When to pick contact finders instead
A contact finder is the better choice in these cases:
- You're running outbound to hundreds of people a month. Per-contact costs are a small fraction of a single paid conversation.
- You want the contact data itself: in your CRM, for phone calls, or for your own email sequences. We don't export emails.
- Your message is a good fit for a free reply, such as a relevant product pitch or a job offer, so paying the person isn't necessary.
- You already use one inside ChatGPT or Claude. Apollo, for example, ships connectors for both.
Using a contact finder and Instant Expert together
You can keep prospecting in Apollo, RocketReach or Hunter and send a paid invitation only to the few people you most need to hear from. Export those contacts and import the CSV into Instant Expert; each row needs an email, a LinkedIn URL, or a name plus company. It's a file transfer, not a native connection, and Apollo counts some exports against its credit allowance.
You don't need to buy a lookup to invite someone you already know about. If a case study names the operations director behind a warehouse-system rollout, import their name and company or their LinkedIn URL, check the match, and invite them. Ask what they personally handled, since the person named may have sponsored the project rather than run it.
Be plain about the purpose. If you want to show someone your product, say so in the invitation instead of calling it research.

What the subscriptions include
Apollo: subscriptions include credits as well as seats, and the Organization plan has a three-user minimum. Check the allowance for the data you'll export, not only the seat price. Apollo also runs sequences, calls and follow-ups in one workspace.
Hunter: the free plan includes 50 credits a month. Finding an email usually uses one credit and verifying one you already have uses half a credit, and team members share one allowance. Verification checks the address, not whether the person fits your request, and Hunter says it can't prevent every bounce. Hunter also sends email sequences from your own mailbox.
RocketReach: its product listing covers email and phone lookup, bulk lookup, an API, integrations including Salesforce and Bullhorn, and a Chrome extension for looking people up while you browse. Confirm which of these the plan you buy includes.

Questions
Does Instant Expert give me the person's email address?
No. We find their work email and send your invitation, but we don't return the address. You hear from the person when they book a call or send an answer, and you can talk freely from there.
Is Instant Expert a replacement for Apollo?
Not for outbound at volume. Apollo is built for sequences to long lists at a low cost per contact. Instant Expert is for a short list of people you need to hear from, where paying for the reply is worth it.
What does it cost if nobody replies?
Nothing. Searching and sending are free. You're charged only when someone books a call or sends an answer, and invitations nobody accepts within 7 days cost $0.
