Instant Expert vs LinkedIn InMail and Sales Navigator
LinkedIn InMail lets paid LinkedIn members message people they aren't connected with, using a monthly credit allowance, and refunds the credit if the person responds within 90 days. Instant Expert emails the person at work with a paid offer for a call or written answer, and charges you only if they book or answer.

The main difference
InMail is the default way to message a stranger, and its credit refund is a fair pay-on-response deal: you get the credit back when someone accepts, declines or replies. But the message lands in LinkedIn, it asks for the person's time for free, and it only works if they check their LinkedIn messages.
Instant Expert offers the person money for their time and sends the invitation to their work email instead. The tradeoff is that you pay for each call or answer you get, which InMail never asks of you.

When to pick LinkedIn InMail instead
LinkedIn InMail is the better choice in these cases:
- You already pay for Premium, Sales Navigator or Recruiter, so each message costs you nothing extra.
- The person is clearly active on LinkedIn, posting or commenting, so they'll see the message.
- You're recruiting. Candidates expect the job to be the offer, and paying them for a call can feel odd.
- You want to reach out to many people a month with a plain message and don't need a guaranteed answer.
If you're weighing Sales Navigator
Sales Navigator is a prospecting subscription, not just an InMail allowance. It adds detailed LinkedIn search filters, saved leads and alerts such as job changes. Higher plans add team and CRM features; creating leads directly in a CRM is an Advanced Plus feature. That suits following accounts over months, such as noticing that a contact moved to a target company.
LinkedIn's US starting prices per license were: Core $119.99 a month or $1,079.88 a year, Advanced $159.99 a month or $1,799.88 a year, and Advanced Plus by custom quote. The listed plans include 50 InMail credits a month. LinkedIn calls these estimates; taxes, promotions and checkout can change the amount.
You don't need a Sales Navigator export to use Instant Expert. Paste the person's LinkedIn URL, or import an email or a name plus company. It isn't a native Sales Navigator connection.
A title on a profile doesn't tell you what the person actually did. If you want to ask about a decision, such as how a partner program's incentives were set, say so in the invitation and ask about their part in it at the start of the call.

Questions
Does LinkedIn refund InMail credits?
Yes. LinkedIn credits the InMail back if the recipient accepts, declines or replies within 90 days of it being sent. If they ignore it, the credit is used.
Why would someone answer a paid invitation and not an InMail?
A paid invitation offers a clear amount for a set amount of time, and it goes to their work email rather than LinkedIn messages. You set the offer (minimum $5), and the person receives 80% of it if they accept. We don't promise any particular person will reply.
Can I use both?
Yes, and it's common. Try a free InMail or a warm intro first. If the person doesn't respond, a paid invitation through Instant Expert is a second route that costs nothing unless they accept.
